According to several religions, the karma is that invisible and impossible to measure energy derived from people’s actions, behaviors, thoughts and spoken words. It is a sum of energetic events that come back to us thanks to the Law of Cause and Effect and the Law of the Boomerang.

Applying this concept to our life and using the metaphysical meaning given generally to the karma, the idea behind is that everything we do, think, execute, decide, etc, generates an energy, which is the cause that produces and effect, a consequence, sometimes good, sometimes less good (negative karma).
That effect or consequence, due to the universal law that states that everything you give comes back, ends up again affecting us, either in a positive or negative way, creating “accumulation of karma”. The sum of all problems, negative events, chaotic situations, etc, are, many times an effect of our karma, of a previous action done by us, in which we have created something similar to that we are now receiving, although we may not have noticed it or even less know about it.

Karma and reincarnation

Many philosophies and oriental religions tell us that karma passes from one life to another, specially when events and actions created by us have an effect far bigger in time that the years we spend in this lifetime. Is as if the effect of something we have done was so powerful and reaching so far, that the boomerang that has to make it back to us does not have time enough in this life to return it.

So, this way, we say that we take with us, from one life to another, actions created in the past, whose effect is only being felt in this one. And this is why, many times, we have to go over situations we can’t understand why, how, or when, we have done something to deserve them (good and bad, of course).

The daily use of Karma

However, karma is not only something generated and accumulated from one life to another, on the contrary, because we, as humans are continuously in action, creating “causes”, we are also continuously generating “effects”. Normally, most of these effects reflect back to us quite rapidly. A good action transforms in something good happening to us several days or weeks after, a “bad” action is reflected in the same way.
There are people who consciously do not want to harm even the tiniest insect to avoid getting even the tiniest negative karma out of it, and instead, they try to perform the biggests positive actions to reap off as much good karma as possible.

How do  you decide to live with respect to these two universal laws is your decision. If we decide to spend your life spreading fear, rage, egoism, conflict, and all the list of negative emotions and behaviors you can think of, you will live simply receiving in exchange more of the same. If you wish to move on the opposite extreme, living in joy, generosity, peace, love, etc, that will be what you will get also in exchange.

Can you do so? It depends. It is just a decision on how you want to react in every moment, every second, how do you decide to deal with whatever situation others are putting on to you. You can reply back a “bad” action with another “bad” action, o you can find a way so the “bad” impact caused by someone else, does not trigger back a negative response in you. So in the short or long term, there are no more negative karma accumulated in your life. So you know, need good karma, do good actions! :-)

I’ll share in another post how to get rid of karma, using a specific meditation. Just in case you need it.
