One of the most important lessons I have learned since coming into contact with the one I call my spiritual guide is that, when it comes to major and life-changing decisions, our guides step back and leave the full responsibility to us. In those moments, they temporarily quiet their constant flow of guidance so as not to interfere with the process that belongs to us: the act of choosing.
Making decisions is one of the most difficult things in life. Not so much the small, everyday choices, but the significant ones that can alter the course of our lives. It is precisely in those moments that we tend to seek help, either from outside or within, hoping to somehow share the weight of the responsibility.
We are often afraid of making important decisions on our own and getting them wrong, which is why we turn to tools like Tarot, to advisors, or to our guides, in an attempt, perhaps unconsciously, to protect ourselves. It is a way of saying, “I followed what the cards said,” or “my guide told me this,” as if that could lessen the burden of the outcome.
My guides have always been there, attentive and supportive, even as they watched me struggle for what felt like an eternity to make decisions that would change my life. Yet they do not intervene. Instead, they allow us to learn, through our own experience, the true value of choosing and taking responsibility for our decisions. Even so, they continue to offer encouragement and support in subtle ways.
Another lesson I have come to understand is that, ultimately, the decision you make will always be the right one, simply because it is yours. Whatever path you choose, your guides will be there to support you as you walk it. But it is you who must decide, at every crossroads, which direction to take. It is like driving a car: it can take you wherever you want to go, but you are the one holding the steering wheel and choosing the route.
